Barcelona Beat Athletic Bilbao 2-0 to Move Top of La Liga
Barcelona secured an important 2-0 victory over Athletic Bilbao in their postponed opening-round fixture of the 2026/2027 La Liga season at Spotify Camp Nou.
Barcelona dominated the first half and eventually broke the deadlock in the 37th minute through Raphinha, who converted a fine pass from Pedri to give the Catalan side the lead before the break.
The hosts maintained their advantage after the restart despite Athletic Bilbao’s attempts to get back into the game. Barcelona eventually doubled their lead in the 82nd minute when Fermín López capitalized on a defensive mistake to seal all three points.
The match also marked Rodri’s first appearance in a Barcelona shirt. The Spanish midfielder came on as a substitute for Raphinha in the 62nd minute to begin his official journey with the Catalan club.
With the victory, Barcelona moved to 6 points and climbed to the top of the La Liga table, while Athletic Bilbao remained without a point in 20th and last place.
