17e5c6Polish striker Robert Lewandowski, of Spanish club Barcelona, has revealed his future with his current club, as his contract with Barça approaches its end, with no talk from the club about the possibility of renewing the player's contract.
Robert Lewandowski's current contract with Barcelona is set to expire at the end of the current 2025/2026 season, after which he can join any club he wishes for free, should he not renew his contract with his club.
Lewandowski joined Barcelona from German club Bayern Munich in the summer of 2022, in a deal that cost the Catalan club's treasury around 50 million euros.
Lewandowski: I feel I'm still at a high level
Lewandowski said, in statements highlighted by the Catalan newspaper “Sport”: “Many make the mistake of thinking my level has started to drop because I am 37 years old, but I feel very strong, and if you look at what I do in training and my physical tests, you will find that I am at a level similar to what I was before.”
He added: “I know I can still be at the top, and I don't see myself having to catch up physically with the young players, but rather they are the ones who must catch up to me, and I think I still have two or three years at a high level.”
Regarding last season's Champions League, he said: “If we had reached the final, we would have had a great chance to win this competition, and that's how football is, you might lose the final step.”
What did Lewandowski say about the contenders for the Champions League title?
Regarding the current edition of the Champions League and the possibility of English teams winning it, he said: “Certainly they are contenders, but we won’t forget Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Paris Saint-Germain. In the Premier League, you see clubs paying astronomical sums for players who haven't had a good season.”
He continued: “A young player scores 10 goals in 6 months, and the club pays 60 or 70 million euros for him. In the past, you had to prove yourself first, but no one knows if the price truly reflects the quality or not.”
He concluded, speaking about Newcastle: “I remember when I was young, I used to wear Alan Shearer's Newcastle jersey. It was a gift from my family, and I wore it a lot at the time, because he was a unique player.”
