Real Madrid Thrash Real Sociedad 4-1 to Move Top of La Liga
Real Madrid secured a convincing 4-1 victory over Real Sociedad in their postponed La Liga opening-round fixture at the Santiago Bernabéu.
The victory takes Real Madrid to six points and the top of the La Liga table, while Real Sociedad remain without a point in 20th and last place.
Real Madrid started the match on the front foot in search of an early opener. Kylian Mbappé came close with a shot from inside the box, but the Real Sociedad goalkeeper made an excellent save.
The visitors responded through Mikel Oyarzabal, but Thibaut Courtois was alert to deny the attempt. Vinícius Júnior then missed a golden opportunity in the 20th minute when his effort from inside the area was saved.
The chances continued at both ends, with Real Sociedad coming close again in the 34th minute through a Gómez effort that went just wide of the post.
Real Madrid finally broke the deadlock in the 40th minute through Mbappé, who received a fine pass before finishing to give the hosts the lead.
Real Sociedad responded quickly, however, with Luka Sučić equalizing in the 44th minute to send the teams into halftime level at 1-1.
Real Madrid returned from the break with renewed intensity and regained control of the match. Mbappé scored his second goal in the 60th minute after combining with Jude Bellingham before firing a powerful shot into the net.
Vinícius then added Real Madrid’s third in the 67th minute after Bellingham won the ball inside the box and set up the Brazilian, who calmly finished.
Real Sociedad attempted to get back into the game, but Courtois continued to impress, making another important save in the 75th minute.
Mbappé completed his hat-trick and Real Madrid’s fourth goal in the 80th minute, converting a pass from Vinícius with a composed finish.
Ibrahim Díaz appeared to score a fifth in the 90th minute, but the goal was ruled out for offside as Real Madrid eventually secured a 4-1 victory.
The result gives Real Madrid a second consecutive league win and keeps their perfect start intact, while Real Sociedad suffered their second defeat and remain at the bottom
of the table.
