17e5c6Barcelona have agreed to loan German goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen to Girona during the current winter transfer window, in a deal that runs for six months until the end of the season.
According to renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano, Barcelona and Girona have reached a full and final agreement on the move, as the Catalan club decided to open the door for the goalkeeper’s departure due to a lack of sporting need, in addition to easing the burden of his high salary.
The same source added that ter Stegen had given his approval to join Girona last week, before the two clubs finalized the agreement in recent hours.
Through this move, the German international aims to secure regular playing time in the coming months as part of his preparation for the 2026 World Cup, especially after making only one appearance for Barcelona this season.
Barcelona had strengthened their goalkeeping department at the start of the campaign by signing Joan García from Espanyol, which significantly reduced ter Stegen’s chances of starting, before a later injury sidelined him for five months
