Al-Ittihad missed out on a victory that was within reach, settling for a dramatic 2-2 draw against Al-Fateh on Thursday in the 19th round of the Saudi Pro League.
Al-Ittihad started the match with a strong lineup, clearly aiming for all three points. Saleh Al-Shehri opened the scoring in the 25th minute after following up a rebound from Dumbia’s shot, giving his side a 1-0 lead at halftime.
In the second half, Al-Fateh pushed for an equalizer, while Al-Ittihad wasted several chances to extend their lead, including a clear opportunity by Roger in the 52nd minute.
Murad Batna equalized for Al-Fateh from the penalty spot in the 74th minute, before Al-Shehri restored Al-Ittihad’s advantage with another penalty in the 84th minute. However, deep into stoppage time, Matias Vargas scored a dramatic equalizer in the 90+9th minute to secure a point for Al-Fateh.
Following the draw, Al-Ittihad moved to 31 points in sixth place, while Al-Fateh reached 22 points in ninth, after a thrilling encounter decided in the final moments.
