Zamalek overcomes Petrojet with a brace and continues the chase for the league lead
Zamalek club achieved an important victory over Petrojet with a score of 2-1, in the match that brought them together this evening, Monday, at Cairo International Stadium, within the competitions of the third round of the Egyptian Premier League.
Zamalek started the match with offensive attempts to open the scoring, before Hossam Ashraf succeeded in putting the White team ahead in the 40th minute, after he rose to a masterful cross from Shikko Panza and converted it with a wonderful header into the net.
Petrojet tried to get back into the game at the start of the second half, but Zamalek managed to strengthen their lead in the 63rd minute, through Mohamed El Sayed, who exploited a defensive error and ran with the ball until he reached the penalty area, before successfully scoring into the opponent's goal.
In added time, Petrojet was awarded a penalty kick, which Badr Moussa managed to convert into a goal in the 90+1 minute, reducing the deficit and bringing excitement back to the final minutes.
Zamalek maintained their lead until the final whistle, collecting three new points and continuing their strong start in the competition.
With this victory, Zamalek raised its balance to 7 points, occupying the second position in the Egyptian Premier League standings, while Petrojet's balance remained frozen at 1 point in fifteenth place.
Pyramids currently leads the league table with 9 points, two points ahead of Zamalek.
