FC Barcelona has submitted an official request to the Spanish League to allow it to play all its home matches in the first round of the 2027-2028 season at Montjuïc Stadium, due to the continuing development work on the Spotify Camp Nou stadium.
According to the Spanish newspaper Sport, the Barcelona administration has taken this step as a precautionary measure, in light of the start of installation work on the Camp Nou roof during the month of June 2027, a stage that is expected to take about four and a half months, with the desire The club is trying to avoid any impact that might result from the delayed completion of the project.
The report explained that Barcelona is not only planning to transfer Spanish League matches, but also wants to play all of its home matches in the league stage of the Champions League at Montjuïc Stadium, in compliance with European Football Association regulations that require all matches of this stage to be held on the same stadium.
The Catalan club has previous experience in Montjuïc, having hosted its matches there during two seasons. 2023-2024 and 2024-2025, and he also played there at the beginning of last season before returning to Spotify Camp Nou.
On the other hand, Barcelona will play its home matches during the current season at Camp Nou, as it will host the Juan Gamper Cup on August 19, with the first official match at the stadium being against Rayo Vallecano on August 29 or 30.
