UEFA changes suspension rules in the Champions League

UEFA approved a new amendment to the ban list for accumulating yellow cards in the Champions League, in a move aimed at reducing significant absences during the course of the tournament.

According to what was reported by Mundo Deportivo, it was decided to raise the number of warnings required for suspension to four yellow cards, instead of the previous system that imposed suspension after receiving three cards.

The decision gives players a greater opportunity to continue in the competition before being exposed.

This amendment is also expected to provide the technical staff with greater flexibility in managing their rosters, while reducing the impact of the accumulation of warnings on the coaches’ choices during decisive matches.

This measure comes within a package of organizational amendments aimed at developing the Champions League, in order to achieve a better balance between applying the disciplinary regulations and maintaining the participation of the continent’s most prominent stars throughout the tournament.
