Al-Ahly achieved a broad victory over its rival, Zamalek, by three clean goals, in the confrontation that brought them together on Friday evening at the Cairo International Stadium, in the fifth round of the Egyptian Premier League title-deciding stage.
Al-Ahly opened the scoring early through Ashraf Ben Sharqi in the 18th minute, before Hussein El-Shahat increased the lead with a second goal in the 32nd minute, so that the red team finished the first half ahead by two without a response.
In the second half, Zamalek had the opportunity to reduce the gap after they were awarded a penalty kick in the 54th minute, but Hossam Abdel Majeed did not succeed in translating it into a goal. Al-Ahly responded with another penalty kick in the 66th minute, but Mahmoud Hassan Trezeguet also missed it, so the result remained the same.
Ashraf Bin Sharqi came back to confirm Al-Ahly’s superiority by scoring the third goal in the 74th minute, signing his personal double and ensuring his team’s victory by 3-0.
With this result, Al-Ahly raised its score to 47 points in third place in the title-deciding group table, while its balance was frozen. Zamalek is at the top of the standings with 50 points, despite the loss at the top of the round.
