In an official statement, the Catalan club explained that the move followed a thorough evaluation of the current status of the project, including its sporting and legal aspects, while prioritizing the club’s interests and the expectations of its supporters.
Barcelona’s withdrawal represents a significant new development in the Super League saga, which has been surrounded by controversy since its launch, amid strong opposition from domestic and continental football authorities, as well as widespread fan protests.
It is worth recalling that 12 European clubs announced the creation of the Super League in 2021, before most of them quickly pulled out, leaving Real Madrid, Juventus and Barcelona as the last clubs to maintain a formal commitment, prior to Juventus and now Barcelona officially withdrawing.
With all participating clubs now stepping away, Real Madrid remains the only club still backing the project, placing the Super League on the brink of collapse and casting further doubt over its future.
